Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with Baja Motorsports dirt bikes. I saw an add in the Pepboys Auto sales paper and the bikes costs about 1/3 of a Honda or Yamaha dirt bike. I know you get what you pay for, but at these prices I can introduce my son into a bike for about $450 (49cc) that he will out grow in a couple of years. Any thoughts on the reliability of these bike would be appreciated.

Chinese probably..(47 years in the saddle, and a builder of Harleys)...get a Honda, Kaw, or KTM, sell it later for what ya paid, or get ready to push. The auto stores push this stuff, and although not bad, they have a way to go on quality. I'm still beaten up and bleeding from a simple throttle change a Chinese scooter of a neighbor (did I forget to say 3 weeks waiting on a replacement?)...build quality is from another planet

hello, i currently have a baja 125 in my garage, and it may seem like its gonna last you a while, but i had the thing about over a year now, and its so worn out and it brakes down alot, i recommend just buying a used honda or something, it will do good in the long run, and just sell it when you want something bigger.

Stay as far away from Baja as possible, the product is JUNK, and the company is worse, they use a plastic copy of a Honda 70 engine, that's right plastic, parts are impossible to get and most are discontinued after a couple of months, they are without a doubt the biggest rip-off I have had the pleasure to work on or with.

many years experience on almost every brand of bike.

If you're worried about cost, find a clean used big 4 bike for your son. You won't lose anything on it unless he wipes it out very hard.

My son has ridden mostly new dirt (couple used ones) and I don't think I've lost a total of a thousand dollars in 13 years on his bikes. You always get the guys who come up and say that's a lot for a mini bike. What they don't understand is they have real motors, suspensions, etc.
Look at the Baja, could it be used as a hard trail rider. Yes your son is young but young boys can be hard on bikes too. My son at 5 bent the forks on a JR50. Crossed up the bars on a "big" jump. End over end three times. The baja would probably be completely totalled after that. The JR we fixed the forks up and was back on the trail the next weekend.

I try to stay away from brands that just try to copy someone elses design and hope the consumer never comes back for customer support and service. Ask the dealer where you can get replacement parts. Who will service the machine. Of course he will say any bike shop will help you out. Ask for a specific name, then call them and ask. Chances are they won't touch it.

we bought my 5 yr old one 2 yrs ago and he has ridden the **** out of it..only thing we have had to do to it was fix the rear tire.. i weigh in at 170 and have ridden it many a times..seems to do very good with me on it...so all i can say is i am pleased with it so far....

at the time i could see spending 400 to see if he would even use the thing versus 2500 for a name brand one
