Hey guy's i just removed my head gasket to replace the gasket and I found this on the wall. this is the top cylinder and it read's 90 comp.and the bottom is 110. I removed the manifold gasket as well and the gasket has never been changed and it was very difficult to take the gasket. Is caked carbon normal in side the walls?

That's a matter of opinion.

I rebuilt a similar motor about a year ago... cost about $400.
I saw one as a consignment in the boat store a day two ago painted camo
asking $850 for it .

Decarb first. Then recheck compression.

May not need any parts after all.

i just put $350 in a 58 35hp after buying it.

Ok I'll get new gaset's.How do you safely take off the old crudy gaset that's like glued on?

permatex gasket remover.
but be careful it removes paint and rubber too so keep it on the old gaskets.
a razor blade with scraper can help too.

What were the results ?
The low compression could have been caused by the leaking gasket.
