Re: question about tilt and trim

I have a 75 hp with T&T I checked the unit prior to buying the engine by taking the + to one wire and the - to the other. I'd have to look at my book to see which one is up and which one is down. If the unit goes in the wrong direction switch the wires and it should go in the opposite direction.

Digger.... If the two wires you speak of (Green/Blue) are the wires leading to the PTT electric motor, then that electric motor is a dual polarity motor.

This means that connecting two jumper wires from the battery to those two wire would make it run in one direction.... and reversing those wires would make it run in the opposite direction.

You will need the PTT relay box assembly and switch for that unit in order to have it working properly. You might be able to work around that problem with a DPDT switch or a series of DPDT switches and diodes but that would take some fancy figuring. Better to obtain the needed parts and do it right.

thanks to everyone for the input. i put one wire to positive and the other to negative to test it...works great. i reversed the wires and it went the opposite direction :) i,ll go down to the local marina on monday and order the proper tt relay and switch. i,m very happy to not have to lift that heavy motor anymore!
