Re: 56-58 johnson?

welcome to i boats. post some pictures with the cowl on and off. they are great engines, i've had several, easy to work on, and most parts still available and reasonable.

i can't pin point it. start a new thread. " mid 50's Johnson what is it?" and post the picture you did here, and the info you have. it will draw more attention.

Re: 56-58 johnson?

It is a 1957 Johnson 18hp. Here's why...
1956 Johnson 15hp didn't have the plastic emblem on the front of the cowling - it had a decal.
1958 Johnson 18 had different style needle valve knobs - flatter and wider on the lever part.
1957 Johnson 18 had the 1956 15 style carb knobs and the plastic emblem on the cowling....
Of course, if someone mixed and matched parts, all bets are off...

Wait a second!! I completely missed the small flywheel and intake port cover shapes! It's a 10hp - NOT an 18... It is still a 1957, though...

That's correct, it's a 10hp. No doubt about it.

Hey, we could turn this into a weekly event. Everyone take the hood off their favorite engine, post some photos and see who guesses it first!!! :)

I was going to say it looked like a ten to me also.
Some guy on my local CraigsList had a mint one of these for sale last week.
The thing looked showroom quality. I would have loved to have picked it up but he was asking way too much and not willing to budge. Oh well.
