Thanks for responding. It's a 1992 MCM 5.7 L. Ser. #OD711281. I have a service manual that shows this housing and its components. Doesn't tell how to remove them. There is corrosion. Just not sure how tight the fit is in the housing. Thanks, Gary

Isn't there two bolts right on top of the thermostat cover?
They go right through the cover & housing straight into the block....
They should have been torqued to 30# or so........:)

Re: Thermostat housing spacer

There are 3 possible thermostat housings for your engine. Click here and near the bottom is Standard cooling (Design I, II, III) which do you have.
Also, just reply to this thread, don't start a new post on the same subject.

It's System II. Like I said, I'm just not sure how tight the fit is in the housing. And there is corrosion. Thanks, Gary Sorry for the delay, pages weren't coming up.

Re: Thermostat housing spacer

I assume you are referring to the plastic sleeve (part #10 in the diagram).

When I replaced mine, it was a slow process getting it out without damaging it, then the thermostat just popped right out. In the future, I will replace the sleeve with the thermostat, and not worry about breaking it.

Don - I must have standard cooling system IV. It is similar to design II, but I have never seen a drawing that shows MY thermosat housing. Oh well, somenody has to be different.
