75hp gear oil comming out of pee hole

heres the problem i replaced the water pump about 2 weeks ago. Now i have gear oil comming out of my pee hole. when i checked the gear oil i had none in the lu. what could cause this? also there is no water in the lu where the gear oil goes. Seemed kinda stranged to me that there was no water in the foot. its a 78 johnson stinger 75hp. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's easy to see how the oil could get out of the seals under the water pump, but that much, that fast? Especially when it didn't replace the oil with water. That's hard to understand.

yeah, thats what has me baffled, see my father in law gave me the motor, never had it in the water, i got it and its has still never been put in the water. I'm sure back in its younger days it ran great. lol. when i got it, it wouldnt pump water, so i checked the impeller and sure enough it needed one, so i replaced it with a whole kit. But it never had that problem before, even though i only ran for a few secs before, runs great though. but it will empty the lu in about 5 mins with the ears on.

That's almost impossible. With the ears on, there is water pressure against the seals and if they were to leak it would force water into the gearcase, not suck it out.

well i'm just telling whats happing, i'm not a boat technician(not meant rudely) I have no idea how this could happen but it is happening. I talked to a local boat shop, and they said they knew what was wrong but wouldnt tell me. All they said is i need all the seals replaced in lu, costing abou $500 parts and labor. But i just cant see how that can be when it didnt do it before i changed the water pump. But seriously it drains the lu ina bout 10 mins, if there was a way to record it and post it on here i would. I'm baffeled as to what is going on, and i jsut want to get it running so i can go fishing, so anyone that can help please help.

just bumping it up m father in law is coming in from japan this friday so i would like to resolve this problem. thank in advance for the help.

Hey, I didn't mean to doubt your word. However, I would be suspicious of that guy that says he knows what is wrong but won't tell you. It doesn't cost $500 to replace the drive shaft seals unless the shaft is worn out. Those are the only seals exposed to the water pump inlet.
