1957, I'll bet it's light blue with white trim.

The gearcase holds 11oz of gearlube. Fill from the bottom plug hole (drain) til it comes out the upper plug hole (level or vent). Don't remove the phillips head screw.

Mix gas:eek:il at 32:1 using 2-stroke outboard oil (4oz/gal). Avoid gas with alcohol (oil doesn't mix with alcohol).

The knobs are carburetor adjustments and you bet they affect running quality. The upper is the Low Speed needle and is usually set about one turn out. The lower is the High Speed needle and is usually set 5/8 to 3/4 turn out.

Points gap .020" and it uses Champion J6C sparkplugs gapped .030".

Made by Gale, it shares many parts with Johnsons and Evinrudes of the same size and vintage.

Do you know the history of this motor? All 1957 OMC motors have bad (cracked) coils unless they have already been replaced. THAT is #1 cause of not running right. You are wasting your time till you have new ones in there. They sell new coils here at iboats.

While the Gale built 25 crankshaft does use roller bearings the piston pin at the rod uses a friction bearing(bushing).Unlike the E/J motors roller bearings.
32:1 my be in question.I'm not sure I would risk it to save about 6 ozs on 6 gallons of gas.Especially if you run her hard.If polluton bothers you Synthetic oil smokes less and is said to be biodegradeable.

It's supposed to be run on 24:1. That's my advice because of those wrist pin bushings. And, yes they do wear out!

well faded white and you could say a light blueish gray faded of course.

well i was told the motor was went through about 2 1/2 years ago. but i bet what my step dad said about it not running right was just to do with the adjustment knobs.

also is it a pain in the butt to check/ change the coil. i took the covers off monday to check everything out(spark plugs, wires, air filter cleaning) and it's quite compact. i didn't feel like tearing her down to just do nothing. can you get new air filters, i found insulation coverd with panty hose. i took out the insulation and left the panty hose Better than nothing.

The gearcase holds 11oz of gearlube. Fill from the bottom plug hole (drain) til it comes out the upper plug hole (level or vent). Don't remove the phillips head screw.

Why not take out the screw, i have not yet, just wondering?!?!?

once agian THANK YOU!!!!

this has helped me a TON!!!

They don't have air filters. Remove the insulation and the pantyhose. Dirt is not a problem on the water. No outboard has an air filter. Not even new ones. Just empty boxes to help silence intake noise if anything.

The phillips is a fulcrom for the shift. If you take it out, you have to take the gearcase apart to get it back together.

If the motor ran 2 1/2 years ago, the coils have already have been replaced. No original coils of that era are still functional.

Pretty much any marine gearlube will do fine, except for electric shift models (which is hard to find). Marine gearlube is automotive gearlube plus additives that help hold water that might get in in suspension longer. With automotive gearlube, water will separate out quickly and rust the parts inside. Granted water shouldn't get in there in the first place, but it happens to every outboard sooner or later.
