First run, Oil on prop

I just started my 140 evinrude for the first time this spring. 1989 v-4 model.
It started right up with new plugs, and sounded great. I ran at idle for awhile, put it in gear a little, etc, all on ear muff water system. Everything sounded great.

When I just went to look it over, I saw some oily sludge dripping from betwee the propeller and the lower unit. coming right from the small gap between the two. Smelled like oil, but I change the oil in lower unit, which would be clean, and it was very black (more like 2 stroke oil?).

could this be just a lot of exhaust/oil residue from a first start mixing with the cooling water? There was a lot of white smoke when first starting.

Any ideas of what it could be? anything I could look for? could 2 stroke oil be leaking from lower unit?

Thanks

Ken

It's unburned oil from the fuel mix.

Must be that time of year. Everybody freaks out about the oil discharge out the exhaust. How many times has that been asked lately? Relax, it's normal. That oil you put in the gas doesn't all burn. Much of it goes out the exhaust, especially at idle. The exhaust goes out through the center of the prop. That's just a fact of life.

Thanks all for your quick reply. This was my first winter storage on my first boat that I bought last year. I am relieved to hear it is normal.
