Todd 500 mounting question - Bushing

Hi Guys, not sure if anyone has seen or had this problem before. I ordered the Todd 5203 Seat Spiders (2 7/8" OD) When I ordered them I did not do a good job of measuring. I measured the opening in the old seat mount instead of measuring the actual pedestal OD.

Anyways, my pedestal is about 2.5". I was thinking of replacing the Bushing supplied with the spider, with a piece of Schedule 40 PVC, cut the same.

This should work right?

Thanks!

It should work. The PVC pipe may not be an exact fit, but if you go up one size you can cut it down to fit. You can then heat it up in the oven until it's soft and then wrap it around the post for a perfect custom fit.

i think your best bet is to return the ones you have, and get the correct ones. you are always going to have trouble from them. ask maybe they make a conversion bushing.

skuda11, this has nothin to do with seats, but I have many times made my own bushing for rudder shafts. I take a 4" wide roll of fibre glass cloth and wrap it around the shaft until I get the outside diameter that I want.. I use epoxy resin mixed with graphite powder and also wrap the shaft with 2 layers of wax paper before I start laying the glass on... did this to my own boat 10 years ago and the bushings have held up very well... you probably don't need 4 inch wide but you can cut it to what ever height you want after it hardens and has been removed from the shaft...also you may not need the graphite, I use it as a built-in lubricant as a rudder is always moving..
