Well here are some pictures of the start of something big? My first shot of boat restoration (done cars and street rods). The boat has been sitting for over 10 years. Got the engine running and took it out for a quick ride. Now I will put more gas in and take it out for a longer ride to see how I like it. (Sea Tow up to date).

The cuddy part is real soft around hatch and windshield. If this becomes to much of a repair job, I might turn this into a center console model like buttanic's. CC are big around our area and would sell just as well.

Will be asking a lot of questions as I tear it apart.

Please keep it as-is if possible.. It has great lines an a very classic Chris Craft look to it... How are the stringers? that old gal looks as if its been sittin out in the weather for quite a while... the cleanup you did on half of it sure made a difference..

My understanding that there are no stringers in this design. What I heard is that the inner liner supports the motor and there is where the strength comes from.

This information comes from another forum member buttanic, who restored the center consol version of this.

Re: Project Started 79 Chris

Chris Craft is suppose to be a all glass boat, no wood. other than trim. but i'm not sure of the 79 model. if you've got access hatches open them up and look around. check the floatation foam.

what is the power plant in it, i can see it's an inboard. also before trying to fire the engine, get advice from this forum, there is a wealth of knowledge there. http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21

Funny thing about this boat every place I can see and that is down the sides and where the old gas tank was there is no floatation foam. Zero. No stringers in the transom that I can see.

The engine has already been started. It is a 305k chevy. I followed what seems to be the standard proceedure of soaking everything down hand crank plugs out and etc. Guess what that puppy started right up with the help of some starting fluid. I have had it out on a few short trips 1/2 mile round trip. Boy I forgot what happens on a small rudder for turning. The tranny seem to shift all right. I think a typical clunk in forward and pretty soft shift into reverse.

I will snap some pictures now that I know what to look for and post them and see what everyone thinks about stringers.

Re: Project Started 79 Chris

 I suppose you would want me to pay for your gas and the toll ferry over to the island to get the boat. Probably even want to charge me for the privilege of taking it away, so it won't be an eyesore to the people around me.:D

Thanks anyway, I guess for right now I will have to bear the pain and suffering and hope that it goes from frog to prince someday.
