HEllO ALL.. I am new here, first post.

my question is, I have a 1987 Marlin boat. It has an OMC cobra 2.3L in it. Well about 6 years ago we were at the lake, and i checked the oil. The oil looked like a chocolate milkshake. So i figured,, Water in the oil. So i tore the motor apart and replaced the head gasket, put it back together, and headed for the lake. After a little while i checked the oil again, Same thing. So i tore it down again and had the head shaved. about that time my life took a turn in another direction, and the motor never got put back together. it has been sitting outside in the weather for 6 years now, with the head removed. So i figured the motor is now in pretty bad shape. much worse than before. So what can i do.. Should i take the motor out and and have it rebuilt? or would it be easyer to get a motor out of a junk yard somewere and just bolt it in. what would be the cost involved with rebuilding it?

Thanks, BRIAN

Re: 1987 OMC 2.3L question

Welcome to Iboats. I'm sure you will get many answers here but i think buying a new MARINE long block and new exhaust manifold would be the way to go..That engine is not worth rebuilding for sure..

whats the differance between a marine block and a block from a car? I can use all the bolt on stuff form the original motor, right?

Re: 1987 OMC 2.3L question

Just wondering, why would it not be a good idea to rebuild the block i have. Because ive been looking around, and cant seem to find a 2.3L block, new or used.
