I have a 15 cobra by bayliner, with a 50hp force that I'm not impressed with the performance,(ie speed) I also have a couple of 550 rotex pwc engines lying around. Would there be any major reasons I shouldn't install the 2 pwc engines into the boat? pretty mechanically inclined I've been a steel fabricator all my life so figgerin out how to do it's not the problem, but do I stand to gain anything? The 550's are rated at 45hp I think, so the two ought to give me 70 -80 taking into consideration the loss of going from prop to jet. any Ideas or definate don't do its?

Too much work for little ruturn.

Sell the motors and your outboard and look for a used later model 60 or bigger motor. Go with a Merc or a John/rude and avoid the Force.

That will be less work and you will come out ahead.

Re: any Reasons I shouldn't

you did say what year the bayliner is, but with the Force i'm guessing late 80's. these boats are known to hold water in the foam. your problem may be that the hull is waterlogged. go to NADA Boats, look up the boat, motor and trailer, and get the dry weights for all of them. this weight does not include gear, fuel or add ons to the boat. then take the whole rig to a public scale ($10) and have it weighed. this will tell you the condition of the boat. they been known to carry as much as 500 lbs of extra weight, in the wrong places.

I would check for waterlogged foam and then look for a bigger outboard. Sell your motors, it would probably be cheaper in the long run. Way easier and you keep the hull as is the way the engineers designed it to be. You would, will encounter all kinds of problems doing the swap.

Thanks for the replys folks Thats kinda what I thought but sometimes you get those odd ideas you know, plus I've wanted a jet drive ever I seen one flying up a shoal i knew to be no more than knee deep on a small river I used to live on. Also thanks for the scale idea tashasdaddy hadn't thought about that, local scrap yard i deal with will probabily do it for free.
