Rebuild Mercruiser Trim Sender/Limit Switch

Can you rebuild the Trim / Limit switch on an Alpha 1 Mercruiser? The wires from the senders are functional, but on the trim sender the internal parts are corroded. The sender just looks like a rheostat. There are wires wound around a bar with a wiper. It does not look that complicated, if you know the correct wire to use....

Just wondering if I can save some money and effort replacing the sender...

There is a rotor kit for them, the Merc PN is 805134A4, costs about $16.
