I was getting ready to cut out the new wood for the transom and wondered if it matters what direction you line up the wood. I am trying to use it the most efficient way possible so I can cut out two pieces out of one sheet... Thanks!

If you are using plywood, I don't think it matters. Idealy the 2nd layer should alternate from teh 1st, but I didn't do that in my boat and its still 100 times more sturdy than factory.

I would orient it so that the grain of the outside ply running horizontally, accross the transom. It is stronger in that direction. By the time you glass it all in, it probably does not matter because it will be getting its strength from the glass.
