Im looking at getting a 5.7 vortec longblock. I have a new edelbrock carb I would like to use. I have the carb on my existing motor right now. I had to use an adapter to use the carb. The adapter added and inch to my clearance.

What Im looking for is an intake that does not add clearance or require an adapter.

Thanks
Eric

Re: 5.7 vortec intake

Assuming it is a marine carb, Edelbrock only makes square bore marine carbs. If you are raw water cooled, and boat in the salt, you will want a specialty marine manifold which has a bronze water jacket lining. Otherwise, an Edelbrock alum manifold is fine. Look at the Performer EPS or RPM. Edelbrock gives the height specs.

Re: 5.7 vortec intake

Neither the EPS nor the RPM will bolt up to Vortec heads. You would need an edelbrock E-Tec manifold. You won't need the adapter and they are pretty much stock height. It is a very decent manifold- good bottom end and good top end, they may even make a marine version by now. You won't be disappointed with it either way.

Chevrolet 262-400 Small-Block V8
PERFORMER EPS VORTEC (idle-5500 rpm)
Now available for small-block Chevys with Vortec or Edelbrock E-Tec cylinder heads, the Performer EPS dual-plane manifold is optimized to deliver superior performance with Edelbrock square-bore Performer Series or Thunder Series AVS carburetors. The runner design is "tuned" for peak torque around 3500 rpm on a 350-inch engine and it?s ideal for power from off- idle to 5500 rpm. Dyno tests showed gains averaging 5+ ft/lbs. of torque from 3000 to 4500 rpm for more performance where you need it most. Match with a dependable Edelbrock square-bore carburetor for maximum performance gains. Will not fit under stock Corvette hood.

Performer EPS manifold for Small-Block Chevy Vortec (non-EGR) #2716
Performer EPS manifold for Small-Block Chevy Vortec w/ Polished finish (non-EGR) #27161
Performer EPS manifold for Small-Block Chevy Vortec w/ EnduraShine finish (non-EGR) #27164

Carburetor Recommendations: Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS or Performer Series carb, 500-650 cfm (see Carbs & Accessories),use bracket #8031 or #8036 for 1972-78
Installation Notes: Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7535. Manifold ht: A-3.96", B-5.08"; Carb pad height: 4.52". Port exit is 2.05" tall with slanted side walls. A/B Measurements

Chevrolet 262-400 Small-Block V8
PERFORMER RPM VORTEC (1500-6500 rpm)
Based on the highly successful and powerful Edelbrock #7101, this single four-barrel intake is designed for the street rod, marine and engine swap market utilizing 262-400 c.i.d. Chevy V8s with 1996 and later Vortec (L31) cast iron or the Edelbrock E-Tec aluminum heads. An external water bypass boss is machined into the front of the water crossover for use on 1996 and later Vortec production engines. Manifold accepts square-bore carbs only. For street and marine engines operating from idle-5500 rpm, see the Performer Vortec manifold. Available with standard finish or polished.

Performer RPM Vortec #7116*
Performer RPM Vortec w/ EnduraShine finish #71164*
Polished Performer RPM Vortec #71161*

Carburetor Recommendations: Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS or Performer Series carb, 650-800 cfm (see Carbs & Accessories), use bracket #8032 for 1972-78
Installation Notes: Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7235 or GM #89017465.

Manifold height: A-4.20", B-5.25" see A/B Measurements. Port exit dimensions: 2.05" tall (odd shaped width). Stock brackets will require modification to fit the upright manifold bolt holes. Use Edelbrock Vortec throttle bracket #8032, see Throttle Brackets and Hardware.

You need to measure, because the stock low-profile 4 brl manifold on standard heads, is shorter than one on vortec heads. This is because the vortecs have taller intake runners.

As long as it's dual plane, you are good with anything. I wanna see one of those bronze-lined manifolds.

Re: 5.7 vortec intake

Thanks for the info guys.

So I would need Freshwater cooled for these Edlebrock intakes, no big deal.

Anyone know of a bronze lined intake, that I would not need to adapt to my carb?

I can't read it, what brand is it?

Hold down your "Ctrl" button on your keyboard and roll the scroll button on your mouse. This will zoom in or out on the picture/text. You can also scroll with the plus or minus keys located with the number keys to the far right side of your keyboard.

The one in the pic is a Mercruiser.
