Throttle remote help request

Hey guys, I am totally new to boating. I just bought a 1999 Larson 206LXI with a 5.0 Volvo Penta SX. I took it out Sat and she ran great, but while I was flushing out the motor, the throttle just locked up in the neutral position. It has a button at the bottom of the handle to push if I want to rev the motor w/o the prop spinning and a red button at the top to lock it in the center neutral position. Both seem to be working fine. I have removed the screws holding the remote to the side, but with the handle on it wont come out/threw the small hole. I took a screw out of the center button and all it did was remove the button. Can anyone tell me how to seperate the handle so I can try and troubleshoot my problem?

There is a hole on the bottom that you have to line up with a set screw to get the handle off. that is how you get the handle off. The whole assembly probably needs to come out though for proper diagnosis. Can you get behind the controller to see what if anything is loose or broken?

Re: Throttle remote help request

Well I can see nothing broke or disconected behind the remote. At the bottom of the handle is a slot, but there is nothing that I can see to unscrew. Now, if I have to rotate the throttle to align it, then I am screwed since this is my hole issue. The throttle just will not budge. I did verify that the cable are not binding though, so it has to be an issue of the remote.

Re: Throttle remote help request

Well, I found two screws on the backside of the handle that seperates the front like a cover. After an amazingly lucky hour of removing the screws, the front opened up revealing two philips screws around the center section. One came right out, one is half covered by the handle and the handle needs rotated to remove. Since the handle is stuck, I cant remove it to see if this will even seperate the remote, suggestions?

Re: Throttle remote help request

Well, I finally figured it out, thanks to a stranger who just happened to be in the right place at the right time for me. I thought I'd pass on my lessons learned for anyone else that may come across this and need help. As I have a Concealed Remote Control on my boat, there was a 1/8" allen bolt that was keeping me from separating the handle and the main linkage. But, to get to the allen I had to be in reverse and full throttle. Now, since my linkage was stuck I had no idea about this till this man told me how he'd came across a similar issue and that in his case there was a bearing that acted as a detent between Neutral, forward, and reverse. He found the bearing to cease due to a wore metal plate that slid along the bearing. He told me to try and find the slot with the bearing and push it in as i move my throttle. I did just this and it definitely worked. Hope this helps someone in the future.
