Re: OMC king cobra transm plate
I hate to beat my own drum......But I guess I'll agree with Bondo.
You have a LOT of severe damage there.
You'll spend a lot of money obtaining another gimbal and drive.
I found a guy north of Seattle on Craigslist that had a 150' Maple tree fall on his 98 Bayliner (120hrs since new) in a big windstorm we had up here in the NW last Winter.... His insurance company deemed it a total loss.
I bought the engine, gimbal, drive, harness, cables, trim pump......basically EVERYTHING in the back of the boat. He even gave me the gages (although they were worthless) and a pretty neet cabin heater that he hadn't installed yet plus manuals and some tools etc.
He wanted $6000 I offered $5000. He brought it down here and we pulled out of the boat in my hanger.
You could try to find another OMC drive and transom but if any time was good for a swap it's now. You probably don't have same problem I had. I was unable to buy new exhaust manifolds or a coupler for my King Cobra 460..........they're simply not made anymore.
Your coupler and manifolds are probably still available but some OMC parts are becoming harder and harder to find so if you break something critical you may be "dead in the water".
The saving grace is that an Alpha gimbal will bolt right in!!(A Bravo will too after you drill 2 additional holes)
You're in a little better shape than I was since you probably have an engine that will work with a Bravo. (You'll need a Merc Bravo flywheel housing though with the Merc gimbal, y-pipe etc) You'll probably have to move your front engine mounts a little too.
Even your OMC harness will work too. (with a Mercruiser engine)
Hope you find a suitable replacement...

Rick
Unfortunately,...........
You're trying to breathe Life into a Very
DEAD Horse...........................
Your Best Excape would be to go the route that HT went with His King Cobra............
Good Luck..............
