So I bought a 1960 Johnson 5.5hp outboard yesterday to use as a kicker on my 17' glasply. I also have a small 7' livingston style boat that is only rated for 4hp. So would it be a bad idea to try and use this kicker on the small boat? The Johnson probably weighs about the same or less than the electric motor and battery.

My SportYak II was rated for 3 and I occasionally used a 5 on it, Bosco, but it was a LOT more pleasant to use with the 3.

I'm not too familiar with the smaller HP outboards, but it wouldn't seem that the extra 1.5 HP would be too much. Use the throttle wisely!

Being that close I would try it and see. Just be careful.

Sounds good I guess I'll give it a try and see what happens.

thats a great little engine 24/1` fuel.oil mix. don't go 50/1 or you will have a mass of metal. you can do a complete restore electrical, carb kit, impeller for less than $150. and have a like new engine, without the worry of the old coils failing.

also you don't have to use all the hp.
