My son calls me today and asks to borrow my riding mower to cut his 2.5 acres. He wanted to wait till tomorrow so he could help me load it on the truck.
I figured I'd get a jump on it and started to load it by myself. Two planks as ramps like always only this time one plank creaks, groans, and snaps in half with me on the mower attempting to ride it onto the truck bed.
The wife and my other son are at a graduation ceremony for a niece and won't be home for hours. That was my thought as the mower and I tumble to the ground sideway.
I got my leg out of the way from getting trapped and landed on my back next to the mower. Whew!! Close call.
Dust myself off, turn the mower upright, get a new plank and walk the mower onto the truck.
Thankyou,Lord for watching out for me!!!!!!!

Glad you are okay, T2F! We had a 911 call a couple years ago from something similar - only the driver was in his mid 80's and he didn't get the leg out of the way! Broken pelvis and femur. Very glad that didn't happen to you! Be safe, now!

Wow! Glad you are okay.

I rebuilt a small utility trailer just for times like that (and other duties)..... well worth it.

Yes T2F.
A small trailer would well worth it's weight in gold for things like that.
Man be careful.

Things like this make you think twice the next time and let you know that someone was watching over you.
Glad you are O.K.

I had a similar experience loading the 4 wheeler into the bed of the truck when the aluminum ramp sunk into the ground. I now have a small trailer.

So glad your ok, get the trailer!

Bummer! That was close, huh? ... You almost lost a lot of fishing time, be careful and not take chances like that.

A trailer is the way to go. You'll be surprised at how much use you will get out of it.

I had an incident a few years ago with a tractor. I had just put the chains on the rear wheels in preparation for the snow plowing season. I figured I'd give her a good run to make sure all is well. So I head down my driveway. This driveway is steep and pretty long, long enough to get a full head if steam. When I neared the bottom I hit the brakes and I slid just like I was on ice. Those chains slid on the black top with no grip at all. Now I am half sideways and headed for the road. I drop the plow and it does nothing. I let off the brakes and head into the woods. All I can think is that my wife has no idea what I am up to and would never see me down here till she leaves the house. Well I was lucky. I went into the woods and she went up on the two right wheels and came within a hair of flipping over on me. Once I got my self together I drove back up to the house thinking how lucky I was.

I had a scary experience several years ago, not while loading, but brought on by my tendency to procrastinate on repairing anything,/lawnmower brakes. We have a rather large lawn here, about two acres. It has a rather good slope on the front that ends in a dry creek bed that grows out when it is has not been raining, which was the case when I went into it, while standing on the brakes, that were non existent. I also found out a few days later that we had a fairly good crop of poising ivy growing on the banks of said creek.:(
