No shift interrupt switch installed!?? 5.0 efi3

Hi all, I got a 2001 5.0 v8 (mefi3) in a sea ray 200 that is very hard to shift back into neutral.(tends to stick in either fwd or rev gear)

I/0 Set up driving an alpha 1. Engine s/no = 0M008291
It has NOT got a shift interrupt switch on the shift plate or any of the associated hardware. Is this normal ?

Just got this boat 2 months ago, my guess is that a bravo was installed and some one swoped it out for an alpha one without installing the switch.

1)-Got switch and hardware on order. Any one know how i should wire this switch up to the engine control unit, (plug j2 i think from seloc manual)
or should i wire it to the coil instead.?

2)-From other threads i think i need to get my hands on mercruiser manual #17 on e- bay is #17 the correct one?

Bravo drives don't have shift interrupts, and Inboards don't have shift interrupts. Either could have a 5L. Any 5L pushing an Alpha will. So what do you have?

I have a 2000 5.0 EFI with an Alpha I that had/has the same problem. There wqs a recall on the shift interupt switch in (?) 2002. I had the repair done which fixed the problem for about two years. Have the same problem now intermittently - any thoughts.

My guess if you have an Alpha I drive, that the engine was replaced. There is no way you can install an Alpha drive on a Bravo transom shield.
That engine SN was installed in a 24' SeaRay originally. with HID #SERV1589G001 check that against your HID number.

No, manual #17 is not the correct manual. You need manual 24 and make sure it has revision 1 or it will be a waste of time.

What is the serial number of your outdrive and transom shield. Maybe I can track down what happened.
