I have a hole, below the water line at the rear of my aluminum tracker boat. This was where the water inlet for the livewell used to be. I have removed the livewell fro the boat and I now need to patch this hole up, the hole is about 1 inch in diameter.

Any suggetions would be welcome.

Cheers Gordon

You can install a garboard drain and plug, and never remove the plug. You could rivet a plate across it. Put some Marine-tex on the plate to seal it.

Or put a Thru-hull back in it,+ Cap it off on the inside.......

You might want it later on so check out all temporary options before welding.

I dont want to sound like an a@@ but do it rite. Have it welded by a pro. You wont be thinking about a leak after that. If you do a temp job it could come back to haunt you. If you have it welded and change your mind you can always go to the local hardware store and buy a hole saw.

Silver and Windy, What part of a garboard drain, a thru hull fitting or a riveted plate qualifies as a "not right" repair? I do not appreciate your arrogance.

Chris the idea is to give a person options, which you seam to think yours may be the only one. Since the hull is aluminum and a welded patch is permanent there would never be a worry. Your way may work just as good but its a matter of opinion.

Talk about arrogance.
