Ok....I am wondering if the fact that the shift thing w/ the notches in it in my engine compartment that controls the ESA clicks about 5 to 7 times in forward but not in reverse is a problem. Should it not bounce at all? My shifting is smooth in for and rev except that that piece bounces a few times. Also, I don't notice the engine cutting out when I shift. Am I supposed to be able to tell a difference in the rpms or is it pretty quick? I guess I am trying to figure out what happens when the shift linkage is NOT correct. Does it not want to shift at all....is it tight/binding? Or will their be some slipping or something.

Re: 88 Cobra Shifting

It should flip at least once when coming out of gear, this is how the switch is activated which in turn activates the ESA module to pulse the coil which drops the rpms which takes the load off the gears to make it easier to come out of gear. If it's not working it will be very hard to get out of gear. A key piece of this is how low the RPM's are at idle, the lower the better. If you shift quickly then you may not even notice the RPM drop although you can usually see the tach bounce.

Thanks Bob!!! It goes into gear just fine...that makes me feel a lot better. Now if I could just figure this impeller thing out. My local shop said the sometimes they can seep a few drops around the edges and still cool the engine. I will watch the temp gauge often.
