Water leak

My 87 CAPRI is leaking water through the exhaust. water fills the bildge when the boat is just sitting in the water. i can spray water in the bellow dry docked and water runs into the blidge. what is the best way to replace the y pipe if thats the problem? It has a 5.0 L . Help

Remove the drive, then remove the engine.
It's the ONLY way you can get to the bolts on the Y pipe.

Fresh water only. boat was run hard and put away wet before i bought it 5 years ago. its had a slow leak for as long as i have owned it now its realy bad. Thanks for the help

If you ever have severly overheated engine you may have burned the oring thats between the y-pipe and transom assy .
Another cause is corrosion probably has set in from the leaking and will get worse. If you pull the engine to repair it be very careful with the four bolts that mount it . If they are corroded you can snap them off in transom .Good luck if you do Stainless bolts in aluminum material are hard to drill out. Keeping center is the problem stainless is hard drilling

Stainless and aluminum don't get along well together.

I just got done replaceing the water pump cap and impller. i melted it wile the boat was over heating, driving into the marina. when my temp guage went through the roof and white smoke came from the bildge. i knew things were melting did i ruin anything eles? engine runs and cools great now.

You probably turned all the hoses between the risers and the exhaust Y into crispy critters, who knows what else went. Hard to see it from where I'm setting.
