My 2000 225 Ficht RAM was running great and stopped running suddenly. The engine did not overheat and there were no codes set.

EMM did not power up - did not activate fuel pump - starter would not turn without manually applying power to solenoid. Diagnostic software would not communicate.

Fuse to the EMM blown (but I think only after I had done a few troubleshooting tests per the service manual)...

Bypassing the fuse which powers the EMM - I get smoke out of the EMM. Took the EMM off of the outboard removed the cover. Applied power to the main red (2 terminal connector at the very bottom of the EMM), ground to the main ground wire and Upper EMM connector 21 (EMM Ground), 12V to PIN 4 (Ignition Switched 12 V) - smokes again and gets red hot.

Below are 2 pics where I circled the part of the board that gets red hot and smokes.

I think I know the answer - I need a rebuilt EMM from DFI or Dixie, but wanted to see if anyone has had this problem - and if so has had any success with repairing themselves or taking to an electronics shop so as to avoid a full $900 or so rebuild...

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks! - Steve
