I have a carb. engine.
I was told that the formula was: Hp divided by 10 +1.
Does this sound right?

General rule should be 10% of HP in gallons per hour at WOT...
ex: 25hp motor would use approx 2.5 gallons of fuel at WOT.

Rules are made to be broken. There are some very noteable exceptions. Some not even on the same planet!

Unless you run at WOT all day, it doesn't mean much anyway. I can enjoy my boat all day on two or three gallons of gas (35hp). But that would be putzing around on the river and enjoying nature. Saw six big manatees last time out. They all had long scars on their backs from the WOT people.

A lot depends on the engine and the generation. I have had mid-50's 35hp and a '77 35hp. The newer motor consumes about 2/3 what the older motors do.
