Took the youngun out of the truck and put him in a little car for the mileage. I'll be taking over the truck :D . It will still use the same amount of fuel but not nearly as often. He'd gotten to where all his extra money was going in to the truck for gas. We gave him a tank a week as long as he was in school and anything he burned beyond that was on him. Quite a change for him though....went from a 2003 Z71 to a Honda Civic.

...to a Honda Civic.

It's what he should have been driving from the get go. His bank account would probably be a lot fatter if he had. I wouldn't let my son get the vehicle of his dream. I told him time enough for that when you are done with school and 100% responsible for yourself.

By that time, I hoped he'd develop some sense. He did and has a lot of money in the bank as a result.

Volvo?? No no no no !!!!!

Volvo's aren't safe, they just are so boring inside that the driver falls asleep and parks up: that is why they don't seem to have many accidents :D

I wouldn't be able to have a honda civic. First of all, I am 6'2" even though I am two months over 14, and expected to be 6'5" om the next two years. Dad wouldn't be so mean as to cram me into a little vehicle. Then, I was born + raised a country boy and WILL be drivin' pickups (or bigger trucks:D) the rest of my life. + "There's somethin' women like about a pickup man" I get dads old '89 3/4 ton silverado with 350 engine. Gas mileage be d*****.

Let me see if I can answer all these..........

Boom, we need a big truck to haul and pull equipment and get the boat to the river. The truck wasn't his dream vehicle....its what I bought and put him in. Told him drive it or walk.

Snapper, I figure an '03 Z71 was as American and safe as you can get. When you get a youngun male or female and they burn the roads up seeing friends, going to the mall, or just riding, along with all the gas to go along with it you'll rethink the "gas mileage be damned".

Never liked a Volvo.

BassBoy1, since you're only 2 months past 14, still living and home, its obvious you dont have a clue as to how much fuel costs or how much you'll burn in an 89 3/4 ton. I guess your daddy must be independantly wealthy or if you're like most farm kids you'll fill up out of daddy's tax exempt tank there on the farm till he catches you.

I dont think I'm mean at all, my boy is 6'1" and scales about 220 lbs., I'm 6'2" and there's plenty of room in the Civic for legs in the front two seat. Now the back might be a little cramped. At any rate....its what he's got and he's diggin the mileage since its not nearly as hard on his wallet. I'm diggin it cause he's happy and griping about how much fuel he's burning in the truck.

There is actually more than those reasons as to why I am getting it. I just threw those out for the he!! of it. That is what happens at 11:00 at night, as I am a morning person. I don't really feel compelled to type it right now, but if ya are really curious, I will type it.:D

Re: Had to break down and do it.......

I was in High school, driving Dad's 4x4 '79 Chevy with a tired carburated 305. It got around 10 if I kept my foot out of it.

he came home one day with an '88 powder blue escort.. WOW what a change. But saved us both a bundle. He did basically the same, gave me a set amount of gas $ per week to cover going to school the rest was my problem.
