Sorry if this is not in the right category. I wasn't sure where to post it.
I have a fiberglass boat with a 115 HP mercury motor and quicksilver shifter. On the shifter, near the base, there is a square button that you push in to be able to throttle the motor up without it being in gear. This was useful for starting it. The button got harder and harder to push in until it will no longer go in and I am not able to start the engine unless it is in the idle position. Any ideas what may have happened and how to remedy it. Thanks.

The original buttons had a ramp that was to soft and there is a new button and ramp in the form of a kit available at your merc dealer

I too need one of these new throttle buttons. Couldn't find the kit on Mercurypartsexpress. Anyone know the part number for the re-fit kit?? thanks in advance, jeff.

Re: Help with quicksilver shifter

I have a shifter on a 2000 alpha 1. Does anyone know how to disassemble this? The neutral button is stuck and so it won't shift. I've removed the button and lubricated everything I can but it still won't pop out. The nut behind the button that holds the handle on is very hard to turn and I don't want to break anything. Is this how the thing comes apart? I've removed the 3 bolts but it just holds the plastic housing to the boat and the control box.
