Carburetor idenification 1987 460 omc cobra ,I?m having troubles with the carburetor running rich at low rpm about 550 650 rpm. Carburetor was rebuilt last year at a local carb shop that has since closed its doors ..The motor will run and shutter just a bit a bit every 20 seconds or so and then after it just will pop and die I can keep the motor running if I up the rpm to about 800 . The Butterfly?s are a little wet when I look in the carb. After it stalls .The barrels area bit black and so are the plugs. I have tried to adjust the idle mixture screws and it seems that no matter where I turn them nothing changes / I start at 1 and ? turns .
The #s on the carburetor are E6JFB and A6F13 I think this a 450 cfm carb.Is that carb way to small for the 460 or is it the recommend one that omc put on it?

The Service manual has the #s at e6J9510 fb and Holley l50399 does anyone know what size this is . I need to know what carburetor to put on it so it will be right. I aim at the point that I will just buy a new one .The points and timing are on the money cap and rotor. points new, may need wires. .working on that. The motor has 500 hours .
Any help will be thank full,

I rebuilt the carb for mine and it ran pretty good. There's nothing really wrong with the 460.....except for the fact that some parts are not available anymore. It's basically a Holly 4160. I'm planning to put it on my 292 Y-Block.

My 460 King Cobra pushed my Four Winns 211 Liberator to 60+ mph for almost 20 years.

I only hope the 454 and Bravo III goes at least as fast....It'll probably be a tad slower.... I just about have everything ready to go together.

I have a whole bunch of parts left over. (I sold the engine (Block/heads/intake) but kept the carb and everything else) PM me if you want anything. I'm just going to put it all on ebay a little at a time.

I sold the coupler. It was in really good shape and it went pretty fast. But I have everything else including a good set of exhaust manifolds and elbows that have never been in salt.

Regards,

Rick
