Re: wellcraft will not run please help

It was in the big bellow were the u joint is The u joint still looks good I was told before I bought it that the gimbel bearing and the out drive had new seals and everything put in it before I got it when the motor was replaced. It has not been i n the water since it was all done except saturday that never made it anywere and also today. I think the gasket that seals it together their was nicked during instalation it had some silcone on one spot I tried to look on dougrussel and could not find the diagram for the part numbers of the gaskets and everything I need to replace to reinstall the outdrive. Both little metal flappers are up their and move freely. I am not seeing anything that is not letting me start it while in the water.

You may want to pour a little gas into the carb when you are on the water, you need to narrow it down to either gas or spark. I would guess there is something funky with your gas or carb that is causing this. To troubleshoot I would try and get the angle of the boat as close to possible to the angle that it sits in the water while you have it on the trailer. There is no such thing as a boat that is afraid of the water. I would try and mimic the angle as much as possible. It has to be either spark or gas. You also need to get the bellows fixed and make sure the ujoint stays nice and dry along with the Gimbal Bearing. Also check drive for water intrusion. Fluid in drive should be pretty close to clear but not milky at all.

It is just confusing like I said in a previous post I have unloaded the boat and swam it over to the dock just like it sits in my driveway and still nothing. I am thinking water got in that bellow from a bad gasket how do you actually fill the oil in that bellow when it is all back together. I am going to check them clamps and make sure they are tight but Other than that I am hoping it is just the gasket I need to get a gasket and looks like one big rubber oring around the u- joint spot and one small o ring around the water inlet hole.

Like I said before. Put the boat in the water. Then when it won't start troubleshoot it.
Check for spark, hook up an outboard tank to the fuel pump and eliminate the boats fuel system.
Those exhaust shutters can not block off enough of the exhaust system to make it not start.............. Unless you only have 70 or 80 pounds of compression to begin with. The ONLY problems shutters stuck in the drive will cause is at high rpm for max HP output.

Tom. I am going to the local marine shop to pick up new gaskets to reinstall the outdrive then If I get it done in time I am going to try to get back to the lake and see what happens I am going to take a hole boat full of tools and and see what I come up with this is just so weird that works great on land but nothing on water. I have a local marine shop that has a lake out front that they test boats.

You shouldn't have any oil or water in the bellows, it should be dry. The only petroleum product you should see in there is the grease that has oozed out of the gimble bearing.

Has anyone suggested the excelerator pump in the carb? If its sticking the angle could open it and when level in water it may close it off. I actually had this happen to me in a car, when I would turn corners sharp it would stall. The angle seems seems to be the key.

I am not saying it is not a fuel problem but I am just don't think it is a angle problem like I said I had it off the trailer in the water. Also I have had someone else work the trottle and you can see the gas spraying down in the carb.

Okay well today went back to the lake and worked on it I have spark and fuel when it will not start. I finally got a hold of the previous owner and he called a couple people he knows and they are telling him that the cam that is in it is the problem It has a mild street cam would that be the reson it will start when I pull it up the ramp 10 feet back it back in and it will not start also any ideas were to get a decent marine cam I Don't want to spend 150.00 dollars on a cam and lifters and it still do the same thing.
