changed prop & now no reverse

i changed the prop on my 1993 vip 4.3 mercruiser with alpha generation 2. now the boat will go in reverse and idle but if you try to give it more throttle the motor dies. i was told i could have it to tight so i loosened one turn and that still had the same effects. forward works fine.

That sounds like a shift cable out of adjustment. The shift cable may still be trying to move as you throttle up in reverse and tripping the shift interupter switch which kills the engine.

I can't see How changing the Prop can have Anything to do with it...........

i also had the interior re done so that had to remove the shiftier from the old side panel and put it in the new one, (i did not do this it was done at an upholestery shop). i just thought it would be from the prop change

I can see how you might have thought that. When reading your initial post, I thought the same as Reel Poor. Became a lot clearer now as to how it happened. You still have some work ahead. Hope that it is only re-adjusting the cable.

you guys were right, i checked the linkage and that little micro switch was what was killing the engine. i adjusted them accordingly and it solved my problem, thanks for the help
