I have a 4.3 IO. How do you check the fluid level on the trim/tilt? How do you add fluid?

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

You already asked this question once HERE and didn't answer Willies question.
Question still stands and there is no answer for you till you answer his question.

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

He's new. :) Been a busy day on iboats. ;) His first post is already on page two.

I'll go with the odds and assume you have a MerCruiser. Follow your ears as someone operates the trim button and you'll find the pump. It's usually back by the transom on the opposite side as the battery. Most MerCruisers that say 4.3 have a pump with a white translucent reservior under it. It should be about 3/4 full of Power Steering / Power Trim & Tilt Fluid. Automatic Transmission Fluid works too. There will be a plastic cap and you just pour it in there.

Others that use 4.3 are OMC Cobra and Volvo Penta. Maybe somebody more familiar with those units can help out here, but I'll bet much the same applies.

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

If its a Cobra there is no plastic resevior, There is a flathead screw plug on the side of the pump.Lift drive all the way up.Fill up until it comes out of fill hole, cycle drive up and down at least 5 times and recheck. ATF works fine.

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

Thanks for the info. It is a Volvo Penta Cobra SX. There is a red plastic cap on the side of the pump. Is that where you check the fluid level? Should it be up to the level of the cap? It is on a vertical surface. How do you add fluid?
