Re: Alternator question from newbee

You don't have an alternator pe se but you do have a stator that acts like an alternator. This feeds a rectifier or a rectifier/regulator. If you have ever caused a spark anywhere or hooked up the battery backwards you blew the diodes in the rectifier. You can verify that it isn't charging by checking the voltage at the battery with the motor not running and then again with it running abour 2000 RPM. You should see an increase in voltage. Also check to be sure all your battery cables are clean and tight.

Re: Alternator question from newbee

The '94 sales brochure says that the 4 cyl has a 16 amp rect/regul for electric engines and a 6 amp for manual start engines, but says not whether the 6 amp is regulated or not. Probably not as 6 amps just isn't that much of a battery charger. And,if they had it in '94, surely they had it in '93.

So bhile put you onto how to find out what's going on with an easy test.
