I'm a boating newbie and was wondering if anyone could give me some detailed instructions on pressure testing the engine or provide maybe a link on how to do it....my motor is an '88 4.3L OMC

I know you have to block off the water hoses but not sure exactly where....where is the pressure applied?

Thanks a lot,
John

Re: Pressure test instructions

Assuming you have a raw water cooled engine (No heat exchanger)
On your thermostat housing remove all the hoses.
Block all the openings on the housing but one. Make an adapter (Be Creative) that will allow you to attach a hand pump and gauge to it.
Pump it up to 15lbs and it should hold pressure.

Re: Pressure test instructions

Don,

Thanks for your help! After I remove all the hoses do I need to block those too? Any suggestions for blocking the openings? I have one of those coolant pressure testers with the gauge.....it's for a radiator cap but i think i can find a way to rig it to work....

Thanks,
John
