First off let me tell you a little about the motor. It was bought 1 year ago from a buddy. He told me a mutal friend of ours had rebuilt it about 9yrs ago, and then he bought it from him. Its safe to say my buddy only averaged about 20-30 hrs. per year on the motor. He told me he was never sure of the correct oil/fuel ratio so he always mixed rich. So rich that the plugs looked to be carboned up. I was told to spray WD-40 in each cylinder then crank the motor with the plugs out to remove excessive carbon build-up. The motor runs pretty good, it does surge a little on top end but after adjusting the high speed knob a little it seems to be better. As soon as it gets here I'm installing a new impeller. Going to Kentucky lake for a week over July 4 and want to make sure everything is tip top. Any suggestions?

your fuel/oil mix is 24/1, will include link to chart. put a gallon of premixed gas in the tank, and 3/4 bottle of Seafoam, put the rest of the seafoam in a spray bottle. the engine leg has the atleast 1/2 submerged in water to run. start engine run till it gets to operating temperature, remove the plugs and spray seafoam into the cylinders, wait 10 minutes, while waiting remove the front of the carb silencer, start engine, now spray seafoam into the carbs until it almost stalls. repeat until it quits smoking. then run around the lake with most of the rest of the gas. now fill the tank as normal and add seafoam as recommended , to maintain a clean engine.

Tashasdaddy, I was told that indeed in '58 that the mixture was 24 to 1 using motor oil. With todays 2 cycle oil I should be running 50 to 1. How does your '58 do on fuel economy? Mine drinks it. Just curious was yours manufactored in Galesburg IL by Gale products? Mine was and that happens to be the town I grew up in, it was a sad day when the shut the plant down. They gave their test lake to the city and it was a great place to fish growing up.

Some do subscribe to the 50:1 using TC-W3, but I'd suggest you check the availability/price of rings, rods, and mains before doing it.
