Through a series of events, my best friend has this boat land in his driveway. Now he's never had a boat. I've been around them a lot over the years but not owned much. I've taken on the task of learning what I can to help him and his wife, who has done skiing and loves the boat by the way, on this project.

Now this boat has a Johnson one hundred that I believe is original to the boat. I know no history. It all looks original, but I don't know. Yesterday was first run. New battery, filled lower end with lube, gassed up, put in the plug:D, let er rip. Oh my god, this thing runs great. It seemed to run a little choked or something but was pretty good. We found under the hood there is a lever on the upper right of the carbs, behind the air filter, that when moved back and forth, changed the motors performance. We found that when it was about in the middle, it ran the best. Here's the question. What is this lever and what does it do, exactly?
I also would like to ask that if anyone has any info on this boat or motor, please chime in. If you have links for me to look at, great. I'm new here and appreciate the help. This is going to be fun. I can also post pics if that helps a question.
Thanks, Gobbler

Do you know what year the engine is?

I'm not sure what lever you are referring too... that engine is a Crossflow V4 and ,depending on the year, if you are talking about a small red lever on the starboard side of the air intake you are playing with the manual choke.

If you are referring to anything related with the throttle linkage, I wouldn't mess much with that without a service manual first, you are probably messing with the ignition timing.

That is the choke lever, middle is the "auto", or correct position for running, down is full on, up is full off. Those glastron's were nice boat's, and that should make a nice set-up. I would clean, and re-kit the carb's, and check the water pump, if you have'nt already.

Thanks. Keep em coming.
Hoeser. I think the motor is a 75. Same as the boat.
R.J. That would explain why it runs best about middle. How does one check the water pump? Nothing else has been touched.
Sprdty. Thanks. I don't think the boat came with any paperwork so we'll be looking for any info possible.

Not knowing the year of the engine, checking the water pump involve's removing the gearcase. A manual really help's here. If you give us the model number of the engine , we can give you the year, and what gearcase it has.
