Is it considered un-American to cook a hot dog indoors, in the micro-wave rather than outside on the grill? Weather conditions are 86 Degrees F. Winds calm. Sunny.

In the micro, you're just heating it. On the grill, you're burning, I mean grilling. You have a nice day to be outside, and it is un-American not to be out enjoying yourself.

Remember the guy that built a motor stand and ran his motor in the kitchen?

To go to all of that effort for a hot dog is crazy IMHO. Nuke it or panfry it.

Cooking indoors on a grill? Been there and done it. Austin Tx hotel room with a little dollar store grill and the exhuast fan on. Didn't burn the place down and didn't get caught either.

The temp went up to 89 humidity 46% so I decided to mow the lawn before it thunderstorms. I did sweat a little. My glasses got all salty and so did my shirt.

Re: Hot dogs

Inside is ok. There's at least one great American hot dog place in every city. I think the majority of them cook indoors.

We've got a place that's been here for several generations. I go there at least once a week. I always see someone I know, great dogs, great service and Coca-Cola in a glass bottle.

I usually have 3 kraut dogs, mustard only or 3 chili dogs, mustard, ketchup & onions. mmmmm

A foot-long dog and a cold beer at a Braves game is the best though! :)

Funny thing is, I almost never eat them at home, but grill a bunch when we go to the lake.

Re: Hot dogs

Usually grill them and a whole lot more at our marina when the whole family with significant others come down for the day. There is just something special about eating there on a nice day. The children never want to go back home to eat if the weather is nice and never want to leave the marina till we absolutely have to.
Grill em on charcoal I say !!! (unless the weather is bad or you are just cooking a couple of them) then do what you have to !!!!

Nothing like a hot dog pan fried with a big slab of butter. I like it better than on the grill.

Well, you most definately don't cook weenies in a microwave. You can fry them, or boil them if you want to stay inside. But, not much beats grillin' em. I eat a lot of weenies, so I will go outside, and make 12 or so, and eat 4, and put the rest in the fridge. Then, I heat them up in the microwave, but they taste like they have been grilled, and still have the grill marks, and flavor. This isn't cooking them in the microwave, as I actually put them on the grill for a bit.

Re: Hot dogs

Well, I remembered an exception. Cooking them in the garage is okay, since a) they come out of the beer fridge, and b) you is cooking em with an oxy/acet torch.

Re: Hot dogs

Oxy/Acet leaves the black fuzz from the acet on them, a propane torch works much better. You can preheat them while still in the package by laying them on the intake. For several years we cooked burgers at home and then heated them that way on the way to the races. Just cook and wrap in foil, place on the trucks intake, and drive away. About 2 hours later they were still good and hot. Am I a redneck? :)

Re: Hot dogs

I bought my first house in Feb, 1967. Having enjoying B-B-Q-ing for many years and it being winter and lot's of rain that year, I bought one of those Habachi things and a bag of charcoal. I stopped and bought a couple of steak's told my wife we going to B-B-Q inside the new house.

As soon as we got home, I opened the flue in the fireplace and started the charcoal in the Habachi in the fireplace and we had a great dinner. We did that for a couple of years, untill I caught her playing around, in some else's play ground. I bought out her share of of the house, where I continued my "winter" B-B-Q-ing with my own "new playmates."
