try this some time, deep fry them, they may rip open but thats just better! done the fireplace thing but never put the Habachi in, didn't think I could get it to burn but I think my fav is to get a stick from anear by tree, run it through the dog long ways then stick it in an open flame (wood fire please) tell the desired amount of charing,,, you get it
There's no better way than putting the dog in the bun, rolling it in a paper towel, and hitting it on high for 30 seconds in the microwave. The bun ends up warm and moist, but not soggy, and the dog is just right.
The only time I grill dogs is when we have a house full of people over.
This past winter me and Dee started cooking hot dogs over the fire in our fireplace. Man they were some of the dogs we ever had. Proper hot dogs must be cooked with fire!
Awhile back before the most recent family disagreements, we would cookout about every weekend. If it wasn't on the boat,,,,it was at home.
Anyway my grandsons got on the kick of only eating the ones with the cheese bits in them. Ohhhh what a friggen mess they can make of ones grill. Plus they are nasty like the ones you find in spagettioooooooos!
"Kenneth Brown Oxy/Acet leaves the black fuzz from the acet on them, a propane torch works much better. You can preheat them while still in the package by laying them on the intake. For several years we cooked burgers at home and then heated them that way on the way to the races. Just cook and wrap in foil, place on the trucks intake, and drive away. About 2 hours later they were still good and hot. Am I a redneck?"
No!! When I was a boy and we went on vacation in Michigan, my dad use to do the same thing with hotdogs and baked beans. I don't remember how he secured them, but he would put them on the engine and drive. After a couple hours we would stop at a rest stop and have lunch. I still smile about that and it has been about 40 years.
The engine cooking trick works great with corn on the cob, too. No need to pre-cook, just wrap each ear (husk and all) in foil and lay it on the motor. Takes a pretty long trip to fully cook though, probably an hour.
But for dogs, I have one of those countertop pizza ovens and it cooks great hotdogs. A dog isn't good if it isn't a little crusty on the outside.
I like my wennies bioled in cheap beer. Cause they always shrivel up after you take them off the grill. Pan fried gives me heart burn. I bet they would be good wrapped in foil and on the grill......? I do like a camp fire dog !....burp!!@!
