Can I omit the primer bulb on a small 2 stroke?

A buddy gave me one of those little two stroke tillers complete with some gearbox problems that I have since fixed. The primer bulb however has dry rotted and shattered along with the fuel lines. The lines were easy but the bulb is hard to find around here and I'd like to see if it runs before I throw anymore money at it. So can I just run the fuel line to the carb and bypass the primer? (yeah, I know it'll be a turd to start:D) Thanks.

Place your fuel tank above the motor (maybe on a ladder ?) and siphon some fuel into the line before you connect it to the engine. The fuel will be gravity fed to the engine and should be able to fill the fuel bowl.

Won't cause any problems, just be hard to start as you already noted.
Older 2 stroke engines don't have primer bulbs either. Although I would hazard a guess that if you got the carb rebuild kit it should come with the primer bulb.

How about a cheap primer bulb and fuel lines from walmart..... you know like the ones we use on an outboard....... or I would suggest that you get a squirt oil can and squirt a splash of pre-mix into the carb to fire it up.... just like we used to do with old snowmobiles.

Thanks!

Got lucky and the local equipment store found a MTD primer that would work on the Ryobi.
