Hi Guys. I am about to buy a 1959 35 hp Johnson motor that doesnt work. The engine does crank, but doenst fire. I am wondering, how hard is it to find parts for a motor this old? Is it worth trying to repair (I can do the work, just need parts). Thanks

hi, just redid a 58 35hp Johnny. laingsoutboards.com has everything you need. 99% of them need points, coils, condenser, plug wires, carb kit. and impeller. around $150 with shipping. you have to remove the flywheel link at bottom. then remove the timing plate, to route the plug wire. it's a really great engine. before you spend any money do a compression check to make sure the base is good. if you can work on a lawn mower, this is just as simple. any questions welcome.

TashasDaddy is bang on. I'm currently working on a '57 35hp Javelin and they're easy to work on. (easier than the 40's) Just heavy to move around! And don't expect great fuel ecomomy from it!

Thanks guys. How do these motors send spark to spark plugs? Do they have a coil and a distributor or a direct coil with terminals?
