I have just bought a used Gamefisher(made by Force)1992,9.9hp kicker.
The good:
Lower unit lube is perfect.
Has good spark.
Good compression indicated from the pull resistance, sound(I'll confirm tomorrow with my gauge...).
Powerhead seems to be in very good condition.
Plugs are a normal color with no fouling.

The bad:
Cover is cracked(no big deal,a little resin and cloth...).
Tilt lock is broken/missing parts(?).
Reverse is non-existant.

The ugly:
The majority of the shift linkage parts are missing from the motor.
Sears doesn't have many of them in stock.
I cant seem to get reverse by manually shifting the main linkage rod.

My question(YES,FINALLY....):
Will the shift linkage parts from a 1996 Gamefisher/Force 15hp be a direct replacement?
My motor's model# 225.581995
Candidate donor's model# 225.581508

I am not pressed for time,as I have a 9.9 Merc for this old Appleby, just couldn't pass up this deal.

TIA

Re: Gamefisher/force 9.9/15hp parts ?

I put the motor in the barrel today, after a compression check(120 psi on both cylinders, woohoo!).
After some fiddling it started, but ran WOT on the "start" setting.
It also would only run with the choke engaged,so looks like a rebuild/cleaning is in order.
I can get it to run,but the lowest speed is way to high.

Some encouraging news:
Plenty of water from the peehole,so no immediate cooling issues, for now.
The No reverse issue seems to be a matter of proper linkage adjustment,as it engages "forwrd" on the "neutral" position.
Seems to have more power than my 90 model 9.9 merc.

More nickel and dime crap:
The brass fitting for the carb primer is loose, and, since Murphy had nothing else to do today, the retainer clip for the choke linkage broke.

Some furthur searching on Sears site reveals that the shift linkage part #'s for the same year(92) 15hp,are the same.
The 96 15hp part #'s have an "f" in front of them.

Re: Gamefisher/force 9.9/15hp parts ?

Update:
All the little parts are on the way from Sears, except the starter interlock, which is no longer available.
Checked the lower unit for water this evening, after leaving it in the barrel overnight, and, yesterday's testing and decarb.
Lower unit is water free, gunk in barrel all from the decarb.

For kicks and giggles I checked the price for a new cover, and almost died laughing.
$213.00 and it isn't even painted!
For that price it had better come with a new powerhead!!!
I see fiber glass in this motors future...

Also, checked the price on a new carb, incase I can't get the piece for the primer bulb to stay,and/or resolve the high idle problem.
That was more reasonable, ~$120.00.

Found a factory service manual for Force outboards on Ebay.
I learned long ago that FSM's are the ONLY way to go,whatever your working on.
They are far superior to the "aftermarket" manuals foisted on the general public, which are not much better that a ouija board,in most cases.
