Re: ignition switch

Justintime,
While we are at this, I have a 225 yamaha and I seem to have an intermittent problem. The engine at times keeps running and refuses to shut down when I turn the key on off position. Some times it works fine another time I have to disconnect the fuel line and run her out of gas. I see the white wire here is the shut off wire. Do I ground this to the red wire to shut it off? How can I know that the switch is faulty before buying a new one.? Its a 1994 model and uses the usual yamaha multimeter gauges. Thanks

Re: ignition switch

The white grounds to the ground or black wire to kill the ignition. Try pulling the kill switch to help determine if the switch or ground lead are at fault.

Re: ignition switch

Run a seperate ground from the battery and hook to the ground leads to verify which wire is not making connection.

Thanks. Will trying this over the weekend or whenever the problem recurs. Some weekends it's fine. Regards.
