Im posting this for my dad since he doesnt know computers.
Anyways,
He has a '78 Mercury 150 150hp, he had taken apart to fix the reverse locking cam, and now its back together and running, but now the Lower Unit is stuck in forward. It has no neutral.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Re: Lower Unit (mercury)??

there's a couple threads today on that subject. read third post on this thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=200715 there's a couple others around, popular subject today, waterpump repair season if thats not the problem, then something might be jamming up with the reverse lock mechanism., but shift rod alignment is more likely, since he woulda been testing moving it for the reverse lock

To follow up to my original.

Does anyone know where we can get a used Lower Unit for that model.

He took it into a boat shop, and there is some sorta of spring that came unwound, (no fault of our own) just happened to do it at that time cause of age the guy said.

But its like 600+ for parts and labor.

So again, where does one begin to look for a used boat motor to grab one off of?

If you are talking about the cross pin retaining spring on the clutch, the part cost about $1.00. If it is the cam follower compression spring they cost about $3.50.
Get a manual and a couple of the tools you will need. you can do the job yourself. If you need a new clutch. The run about $160.00
FIRST thing to do is check everything else to make sure it is something else that is keeping it in forward gear.

ebay is your best bet, but then you take your chances and there are different gear ratios. haven't a clue whats interchangeable.
what spring is it. sounds like a lot to change a cheap spring.
