I have a 7.5hp Gamefisher. It starts and runs fine but the shaft gets extremly hot to the point of boiling. I don't have a manual for this engine. How does it cool itself and what could be the culprit?
Thanks,
Wes

Re: 7.5 Gamefisher Running Hot

Welcome to iboats. :)

The powerhead is air cooled, but the exhaust is water cooled. There is a water pump on top of the gearcase and it has a rubber impeller in it that has probably failed. Go to www3.sears.com and have the model number handy. You might be able to access parts diagrams and the part might still be available. If so, please let us know.

The motor will run without a working water pump, but it will run better if it does.

Did the pump replacement fix your problems? I found the parts for the pump at the sears site but nothing at the one you listed. The kit was about $65. Does that sound right??
