Rust in Tank on 9.8

I picked up a tank for my Mercury 9.8 hp the Gas in it appeared a little rusty,

How should I go about cleaning this ??

Throw it away and go get a new one.

Believe me, a gas can is a lot cheaper than fixin a motor.

last post is probbably right. not uncommon for the fuel to change to a rust colour when old and bad as it will pick up lots from inside of tank.I have washed out automotive tanks with boiling hot water and sloshed it around inside. effectively steaming it. after put in some methanol, or air brake antifreeze to absorb any moisture. inspect inside, if any flaking and rust then you would need to use a gas tank sealer, which i've seen at motorcycle shops. its expensive, and at this point a new tank would be cheaper.
