Need Mercontrol help

I'm a Mercury virgin and have just gotten my first one. I am piecing together the remote console. Part of that is the controls for the motor. I have a type 600A control that has this number on the bottom: 16900a15.
There is an 8 pin harness that is connected to the motor, and there is a 5 pin harness with a single wire pigtail that I would like to find out what it is for. The photos below show what I am talking about. Thanks in advance.

looks to me like a dash instrument pigtail. but could be anything.

Thats a harness for dash gauges such as a tachometer, voltmeter and possibly a temperature gauge. You can get the wiring harness that plugs into that part for about $25 from boatfix.com, it's called the Mercury Tachometer Harness on page 16 in their online catalogue.

Another question about the harness to the motor--
There are a blue and green pigtail, and there is a brown one that is snipped off. Any ideas what that one may have gone to?

Mine had a blue and green both with white stripes, they were connections for the power trim. I also had a brown one but it didn't connect to anything either, have not quite figured that one out yet.
