Wireless Connection

Today my wireless connection speed keeps dropping to 24mbps. I have a good signal strength just the speed keeps dropping and It's driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do to help speed it up. I have reset the modem numerous times and it does not help. Any Thoughts?

First it is important to note you internet connection is likley no where near 24mbps and dropping to this speed should not effect you internet speeds at all. Is this somthing that has resently started? are there any new electronics nearby that may be interfearing?

I just noticed it doing this,this evening, Internet sights were loading slower that usual and I checked the speed on the connection and I was low. I can reset the modem and It will work normal for a few minutes and then the speed drops, The answer to your second question is there is noting different at the modem location. I did move it to a higher location to see if it helped even though I had a good signal. I am getting a little noise to show up on the utility screen but I have always had some. I do have I filter installed.

Hook up to your router with hard wire connection and test your speed to verify it is the wireless that is your internet speed problem.

I have dsl but it's ran through my phone line, and the filter is between the phone jack and modem.

For your first response I already tired that. My desktop is connected to the same router but with cable and It's speed is running at it's maximum.

You probably already tried this but I once moved my computer/router and when it came back up Internet was slow. I fought it for several hours before I checked and found that I had the filter in wrong. I am not sure what caused the problem, but when I moved the connections to the right place everything was good again. The filter is labeled, I just didn't look too careful and it will hook up either way.

They are supposed to be on the modem also.I have one on my modem and it works fine.

On mine the filter has three connections - one unlabeled, one labeled phone and one labeled DSL. I don't have the installation manual anymore, but it seems like the unlabeled one was inbound and the other two were outbound. I could be wrong but I get the correct speeds and no data noise on the phone connection. I also get no disruption in the DSL when the phone rings or a conversation is going on. If it is wrong, it seems to work fine.

Mine is like nothreat's.. Still set up just like the phone company hooked it up.

For some reason unknown to man the connection speed is normal this evening (without dropping) Last night the speed was dropping down to 18 to 22 Mbps. Must have had some interference somewhere. It sure ticking me off though LOL.

Try changing the frequency, wireless channel, of the wireless device. It helped me out. I went form 2.447GHz to 2.452GHz.

Mine slowed down from time to time. Upon investigation, I discovered that I was connecting to the neighbor's wireless, rather than mine.

The filters are for the phone, not needed for internet, use them or dont, it dont mater cept fer the phone. Could it be that you have no security set up in your wireless and the nieghbor (wanting to or not) is useing your connection? I think that would slow you down.

Ok..that connection that goes to your modem is the unfiltered tap.

I bet you had an interference problem. We used to have a problem with our wireless whenever someone used our wireless phone since they were on a similar frequency. Could be a neighbor on a wireless phone that is causing your problem as well. Even though there is interference, your connection will still tell you that you can do 20Mbps.

LOL, My nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mile away.
