Hello All and Happy Fathers Day! I have volunteered to refurb my neighbors water pump in subj motor. Engine is in great shape. They don't have a service manual and neither do I. Am fam with foot removal (and inserting into mouth) from other engines. The question is how to remove the transom lock rod from the foot and PLEASE tell me I do not have to disconnect the shift rod under the carbs...! Please tell me the shift rod will disconnect from the foot as it drops down.
Thanks in Advance,
David

The shift rod is a splined shaft. Just remove the leg bolts and pull the leg down, the shaft will disconnect itself at the top of the leg.

Eric, THANKS A MILLION! Just one more - the transom lock rod, how does it disconnect? I see the set screw but when I remove it there is a nylon or plastic sleve...
Again Thanks,
David

you dont have to disconnect any of the rods to transmission they will split when the lower unit is dropped down just remove the bolts and nuts and remeber to get the bolt holding the trim tab thru the hole in the top with an alllen wrench just watch for seperation of shift shaft mine was corroded and stuck and pulled out of the transmisson so be sure to get the splines apart

Jimmy, Thanks for the reply. One question - The transom lock lever has to move up and down. What keeps it in place inside the lower end??
