What were the WOT RPMs? I have a friend with very close to the same boat which runs in the low 30s.

You could be propped incorrectly, or you may have some extra water weight.

I am no expert, but seem to me a 14 MPH that boat would be plowing water, and no way could "handle nicely".
Is your speedo working? Can you recheck with a GPS.

Sounds allfull fishy to me. ( no pun intended).

Just don't sound right.

wot was at 4800 rpm's.The handle nicely was at the lower rpm's.But even in the higher rpm range it wasn't bad.It currently has a 17 pitch stainless steel prop going to try a 19

The 19 is going to make the bottom-end and hole-shot more sluggish. If you were going 13 at WOT, you may have some serious water weight in the boat. Check around below deck.

What is the powerplant in that boat?

Do you have trim tabs?

It's a 260 hp 5.7 liter chevy engine.I just rebuilt the engine. The stringers for the motor mounts weren't rotted. The boat sits correctly in the water. It's not water logged. The boat weighs in around 5300 lbs dry.

Boat doesn't have a speedometer it uses a wheel mounted to the transom which runs to the depth finder.I will be installing a gps this week. The boat never did plane properly. When going full throttle the bow would lift but the boat would never get out of the water enough to properly plane.

Re: Finally got to launch the 86 searay on Sunday

The boat rode well and sits properly in the water. It was not a matter of the engine lugging because of too much weight or too much prop. It was a matter of the prop is too small and can't bite the water well enough to move the boat. He was just giving it throttle and the engine rpm came right up, but the boat didn't come up on plane. The prop just couldn't push it fast enough even though the engine was hitting max rpm. Either that or the rubber hub was spinning, I didn't think of that at the time. And the boat was a pleasure to be out on, John got a helluva deal on it. Thanks again for the ride.

P.S. Got my glass installed tonight and the wife and kids want to go boating this weekend, so what are you up to? Or up for?
