hey all,
im new here and a big newbie. i just bought an older boat with an evinrude 75 on it that has not been run in a few years. i put in some fresh gas/oil mix, mixed real rich for some extra help and it fired right up. i doesnt seem to have any problems, but it doesnt sound real smooth either.

my question is this:

do i take it in to get "looked at" before i take it out

OR

just go for it and hope with running more it will "clean itself out"

thanks

P.S. yes i ran it in a barrel of water, and only for about 5-10 min

Re: Just Running

Welcome to iBoats.
Glad to see you have a Evinrude 75 hp. What year is it?
You should check the engine temperature to identify if there's a cooling problem right away. When you don't know the maintenance history you never can tell. I took the lower end off my 1964 and replaced all seals, O-rings and the water pump. All of that is below the water and critical to the operation of the motor. The power head and carburetors can be worked on above water so it's a bit easier if a problem arises while out on the water.
Good luck and have fun boating.

Re: Just Running

model # 50523

i belive its a 1960

And when i ran it in the water, not a lot came out of the motor. how much is supposed to? i felt the engine and it was hot enough to be hot to the touch, but not untouchable. and i dont have a temp gauge to check.
