With 3 kids in the house you can imagine the amount of DVDs and CDs that no longer play because they are scratched.

Does anyone have any experience with the devices on the market that are supposed to fix scratched disks?

Thanks, ken

Re: CD polisher

I don't have one but a buddy does and he swears by it. The big problem is when the printed surface gets scratched. You can polish all you want and the disk still will not work. That reflective surface has to be damage free. It works like a mirror does.

Re: CD polisher

I have not tried this but when in school for puters they told us to use tooth paste and use tiny circular motions. But like RP said if the shiny is damaged its over some mfg's will replace them others will not.

Got some cheap cdr's and burned 20 or 30 disks and put them to work. Someone  spilled a cup of coffee on one of them and the entire foil surface shriveled up and came off leaving a clear disk, last time I bought the no name cheap ask disks ;)

Re: CD polisher

We had a PS2 Game that would not play anymore.

I decided to try one of those polishers. I bought the "Disk Dr" for around $30, I think. I figured if it saved that game, then it payed for itself.
It worked great.
I have since used it to repair several CD's and DVDs. I rented a DVD and it wouldn't play, Disk Dr saved it. I did the store a favor, but it saved me some frustration too.

I have not had to deal with one that was scratched beyond the reflective, so that part could be true. All I know, is it makes 'em shiny and they work again.
